Fonkachüachli

Traditional dessert in the Großes Walsertal

The traditional "Fonkachüachli" (padded dumplings) are a must at a Fonka or Chüachlisu(o)nntig in the Großes Walsertal. Take a piece of Walser tradition home with you and try this sweet pastry for yourself.

Have fun baking it yourself!

Ingredients:

  • 25 dag flour
  • 8 dag butter
  • 1 egg
  • salt
  • 1/16 l cream
  • a little cold milk

Preparation:

  1. Mix the ingredients to form a firm dough.
  2. Knead until the dough forms bubbles.
  3. Roll out with a Chüachlitrulli (pasta roller) to the thickness of the back of a knife.
  4. Cut into triangular or square sheets and fry in fat until light yellow.
  5. Then roll in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon.
