On the trail of nature

Out and about with the family on the Natursprünge trail

It's Tuesday morning, 9:30, a moment when we - my husband Peter, our children Laura and Paul, and I, Christiane - set off together on an adventure that brings us a little closer to nature.

We have just boarded the gondola and are floating uphill when our two children are already trying to answer the questions in the puzzle booklet. We collect our handcart at the middle station before taking the panoramic cable car to the Burtschasattel. Paul can't believe how high up we are here!

But before the actual discovery tour begins, an adventure playground captures the children's attention. Never mind, we adults enjoy the sunshine and have another coffee. After all, we have time. After another, albeit short, stop at the weather station, where we write the first results in our puzzle booklet, we set off.

The path is wide and well-maintained, and carrying our handcart is no problem. For the few meters uphill, we simply walk together. The sun paints shadow patterns on the path, which winds its way up and down between the trees over gentle inclines.

We learn how water filters itself, discover which stones lie on the mountain and observe the hustle and bustle of an anthill. The children climb, crawl, run and balance along the edge of the path - boring hike my ass! As the path leads out of the forest and onto the open alpine meadows, the sun is already shining brightly. Time for a picnic with a view. Laura and Paul find blueberries between a few bushes for dessert.

In moments like these, far away from the noise of everyday life, surrounded by the majestic backdrop of nature, we remember what really matters: The time together, the discovery, the wonder - a memory that leaves a lasting impression in our hearts.

When people ask me what we liked best today, I find it difficult to answer. Paul, on the other hand, found it easy to answer - playing by the stream was his absolute highlight!
