Two days of pure mountain bliss in the Rätikon
Leibersteig, overnight stay in a hut and summit conquest
The Rätikon, an impressive mountain range, stretches from Vorarlberg across Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The tours here offer extraordinary experiences, including the ascent to the Schesaplana - the highest peak in the Rätikon. I have already climbed the summit from Lünersee, but this two-day tour, which takes us to the Mannheimer Hütte, promises even more.
Our adventure begins in the Brand Innertal, where we hike across alpine meadows and a farm track to the Oberzalim hut. The Zalimtal, known for its untouched nature, inspires us with its beauty. The Leibersteig, a steep and exposed alpine trail, leads from the hut and makes us nervous at first. But the secured passages with footholds and ropes reassure us. Once at the top, we enjoy an impressive view of the Brandner Glacier and the Schesaplana.
The Mannheimer Hütte, our destination for today, lies in the middle of this magnificent backdrop. After a hearty dinner, we experience an unforgettable sunset over the mountains. The last rays bathe the peaks in an orange light - a perfect moment.
The next morning, after a hearty breakfast, we set off to cross the glacier. The route used to lead directly to the Schesaplana, but today we have to cross the Brandner Glacier. Marked with a rope, we carefully cross the bluish ice. The melting of the glacier is palpable - a melancholy moment. After crossing the glacier, the route climbs steeply and we soon reach the Schesaplanascharte.
The summit, which impresses with its steep slopes, is visited by numerous day hikers. The view is breathtaking - an unforgettable mountain panorama that we capture with a souvenir photo. The descent takes us to Lake Lünersee, whose deep blue waters enchant us once again. Exhausted but happy, we return to our starting point in the afternoon. This hut tour in Brandnertal was an unforgettable experience - and certainly not our last.
