St. Gerold is the cultural center of Biosphere Reserve Großes Walsertal. It was here around a 1000 years ago that the hermit Gerold began the story of the valley settlement. At his grave site a monastery was built, around which the first settlers settled – this became the Propstei St. Gerold. Their way of life and quite extraordinary cultural product is known today far beyond the borders of Großes Walsertal. After extensive, careful renovation the special atmosphere and tranquility of the place has been retained maintaining this place as a treat for the soul. On the theme path of the senses you will find in the silence of nature, inspiring sayings and words of poetry from different religions.
