A day in the Alpine town of Bludenz

Winter enjoyment with a panoramic view

Winter has arrived in the Alpine town of Bludenz, making the snow-covered mountain peaks around the town more majestic - they have a very special charm in winter. "I want to experience this up close!", I say to my friend, which is why we decide to take a trip to the Muttersberg on our first day of our holidays in Bludenz. This is also known as the sunny balcony, sounds good!

Experience winter on the Muttersberg

It has snowed a lot in the last few days and we look out of the gondola at the impressive landscape below us. The higher we get, the more valleys, villages and towns emerge from behind the hills - you get a real bird's eye view from here, I think to myself. As there is so much snow, we have taken snowshoes and winter hiking poles with us as a precaution, which proves to be a good idea when we arrive on the Muttersberg. We remember the guided snowshoe tour we did during our last winter holiday, this time we want to explore the winter landscape on our own. We have read that there is a very special themed trail on the Muttersberg, the "Alpine Art - Art Trail". With our snowshoes, we make our way through the impressive amount of snow - luckily I don't have to walk in front - I smile. On the circular trail, we come across six works of art that are embedded in the surroundings, such as the so-called "Blickbank" or my personal favorite, the "Schlitten". After an interesting tour, we return to the mountain station around midday. To be honest, my stomach has been growling already, so a stop at the Alpengasthof Muttersberg is a good idea. After a hearty lunch, we start our descent again, as we still want to see some of Bludenz.

Stroll through the old town

As there is still some time left in the afternoon, we head to the historic old town. "Yay shopping!", I burst out. We take a leisurely stroll through the alleyways and one or two of the dresses in the stores find a new home in my shopping bags. I need a souvenir for my family, I think - what could be better than a few typical products from the region?

Unfortunately, my friend is not so keen on shopping, so he suggests we stop off somewhere. Inspired by the delicious smell of chocolate that has been in the air the whole time, we make our way to a restaurant - of course I order a hot chocolate. The waitress explains that the sweet smell of chocolate comes from the chocolate factory in the city - wow! I've never experienced anything like it anywhere else.

Finish and wellness with a view

To round off this wintry day's vacation in a really comfortable way, we search the internet for a wellness center and quickly find what we are looking for. Bludenz even has the largest sauna complex in Vorarlberg, the Val Blu. It was already dusk when we made our way there on foot. What could be nicer than unwinding in the sauna after an active winter's day? From the sauna cabin, I look through the large panoramic windows at the surrounding mountains - we were still so high up today - I am amazed. Completely satisfied with our eventful day in Bludenz, we return to our accommodation in the evening.
