On old mule tracks via alpine passes in 29 daily stages from Zermatt to Mittelberg in the Kleinwalsertal. Stage 27 and 28 lead through Großes Walsertal.
Via the Muttersberg (1,402m) - reachable by the Muttersberg cable car - and the Tiefenseesattel (1,562m) you reach Fuchswald (1,145m). Continue on to Oberpartnomalpe (1.679m) and down to Stein (1.306m) - where you can comfortably hover over the valley on the gondola lift of the cable cars. The day's destination is the municipality of Sonntag (888m).
From Sonntag walk to Buchboden and over the Oberüberlutalpe (1.585m) to the Schadonapass (1.840m) where the Biberacher Hütte (1.846m) is located.

The Rote Weg is a connecting route between the eight Alpine states. It crosses several times the main Alpine ridge to connect Trieste with Monaco via Bavaria and Liechtenstein. It leads through the Lechquellengebirge, past the Biberacher Hütte through the Große Walsertal.
