With silent steps through the glittering winter wonderland

Snowshoe hike from Raggal to Ludescherberg

I'm off to enjoy the winter. I wrap my head and hands up warm, take one last look at my snowshoes and off I go - into the glistening white winter landscape of the Großes Walsertal biosphere reserve. The starting point for today's hike is the parish church in Raggal, where I park my car at the municipal office.

The tour first takes me on a gentle ascent along the goods road to Rapiert and the Gafiduralift. The fresh, snow-scented winter air fills my lungs. Then I leave the small ski resort of Raggal behind me and immerse myself in the peaceful winter landscape ahead of me on the groomed winter hiking trail in the direction of Falazera/Ludescherberg. Silence reigns and I let my gaze wander over this white expanse. Past groups of snow-covered trees and hay barns, the trail climbs gently up and down to Ludescherberg, where the enchanting winter panorama of the surrounding mountains and down into the Walgau opens up before me.

I take a short break and let the winter wonderland take effect on me. After a little refreshment with hot mountain herbal tea and home-baked cookies, I head back along the same route. A little tired, but happy and satisfied, I arrive back at the parish church in Raggal.

My tip

Snowshoes are recommended for this tour, especially if there is fresh snow. This allows you to make your own tracks in one place or another, even over short distances. Caution: If you leave the prepared winter hiking trail, you are walking in open, unsecured terrain. This requires knowledge and experience - because you are responsible for assessing the route, snow and avalanche situation. If you don't have snowshoes, it's better to stay on the groomed winter hiking trail. As soon as the snow has settled and stabilized, it's like walking on a carpet of snow.
