The magic of wild water

Rough power and impetuous beauty

Imagine you are standing on the bank of a wild stream, its water rushing over the stones and rocks with unbridled force. Close your eyes. What do you feel? Wildwater is not only a natural spectacle, but also a symbol of unbridled life energy and reminds us of the untamed forces of nature. Rugged rock and water in its various forms have always characterized the landscape of the Klostertal. The main river, the Alfenz, meanders through the valley for 26 kilometers. Numerous tributaries make their way over rocky terrain and have formed striking waterfalls and deep ravines in some places.

The Fallbach waterfall is one of the largest in Austria: the Fallbach wall towers high above the two vacation villages of Dalaas and Braz, where the water plunges over the steep cliff edge from a height of 1400 meters. From a distance, the Fallbach looks like a glistening white ribbon. The sight of this impressive natural spectacle inspires thought-provoking games: while the water flows in a steady stream, the waterfall itself seems constant in its form. We feel the power of nature and recognize its incorruptible beauty. At the same time, this force of nature has an inherent creative power. The water that pours over rocks and cliffs shapes the landscape, forming valleys, caves and lakes. The process may seem violent, but at the same time it is a source of new life - plants thrive, animals find a habitat. A panoramic trail takes you to the foot of the imposing Fallbach waterfall; a challenging climbing route leads up the steep Fallbach wall and offers impressive views.

However, the Klostertal has even more sights to offer that are characterized by the element of water. The Wäldletobel Bridge in the village of Klösterle is one of the highlights of the Arlbergbahn's engineering structures. The impressive viaduct is a proof to the craftsmanship of the Trentino bricklayers who built the structure as part of the construction of the Arlberg line. Today, an educational trail can be followed here, which leads into the impressive Wäldletobel Gorge. There, the Wäldlebach stream rushes incessantly down almost vertical rock faces towards the valley. After storms, the bubbling torrent can swell into a raging torrent and develop a sometimes destructive force. On warm summer days, the cool freshness of its spray rising from the depths will invigorate you.

The Mason waterfall in Braz, which has an impressive drop of 80 meters, is also on the list of natural monuments worth seeing. It is fed by the source of the Masonbach stream, which rises on the Masonalpe above the waterfall. Guided hikes to this impressive natural spectacle start regularly from the municipal office in Innerbraz until October.

You can encounter the element of water in many different forms in the Klostertal - from small torrents to main rivers, from biotopes to lakes. Waterfalls are particularly captivating with their raw power and majestic beauty. The water that inevitably tumbles down the rocks is like a person going through life without being able to fully control the direction or course of their existence. But this is precisely where a special kind of freedom lies.
