Lantern hike

An evening walk in the Klostertal

It's slowly getting dark in Klostertal. With a lantern in my hand, I meet up with my hiking group in Klösterle am Arlberg, ready for a special evening walk - a lantern hike.

After lighting the storm lanterns, we set off. Our path leads us along the always loudly rushing mountain stream Alfenz. The road winds its way up the hill past the Grosstobel Gallery. When we reach the highest point at 1,078 m above sea level - it is already dark - we can see the glowing lights of the houses in Klösterle.

Our route continues along the "Alte Bahn-Weg", where the Arlbergbahn trains once ran. We take a short break at a small hut, the former train attendant's house. Today, the hut serves as a shelter and resting place for hikers.

The way back leads through a forest. The lights of the village shine towards us, and when we finally extinguish the lanterns, my hiking guests often have the feeling that they have experienced something special - something that is often overlooked in everyday life: The stillness of the night and the stars shining in the sky.
