A Sunday in Sonntag

My favorite place in the Großes Walsertal

The municipality of Sonntag in Großes Walsertal is my favorite place in the region. I love spending a day there. This is also the case on a Sunday in summer. As soon as I get off the bus at the Sonntag-Stein cable car, I'm happy to be here again.

I take the gondola to the opposite side of the valley and up high. Deep below us is the Lutz mountain stream. Once at the top, I enjoy the view of the valley, the mountains and the scattered houses. I take a leisurely walk along the Klangraum.Stein theme trail and reflect on the sounds of nature.

At lunchtime, I treat myself to a break on the terrace of the Seilbahnstuba. The food tastes wonderful, the mountain air is clear and the view is phenomenal.

Afterwards, I take the gondola back down to the valley, as a visit to the biosphärenpark.haus is still on my agenda. There I discover all kinds of regional products from the Großes Walsertal, taste different varieties of Walserstolz cheese and finally decide on the eight-month matured cheese. The view into the show dairy is particularly exciting, but it is already 15:00 and the dairymen have already finished their work.

My next stop is the village church, close to the Museum Großes Walsertal. Here I immerse myself in the history of the Walser people and their traditional way of life.

At the end of the day, I stop off at Ida's Gasthof Krone. There are locals at the regulars' table and I bravely sit down with them. After an amusing and interesting dinner, I take the last bus back to the valley - with many impressions in mind.
